Getting Started

To start off, you will first need to make sure that you have the proper tools that are used for hanging roman blinds. The tools that you will need include:

Measuring tape
Safety glasses
Drill (1/16” and 7/64” bits)

Make sure you have a check list handy so that you can check off all of the tools that you already have. The ones that you don’t have can easily be found at your local hardware store. Generally you will have a blind kit that should include the proper materials when you get ready to DIY.

The tools in the blind kit should include:

One thing that you should keep in mind is that there are different methods of mounting for different types of surfaces, so you should know which type of mounting you need for the surface that you have. If your surface is wood, then it is okay to use the screws that come in your kit, but only use these screws if you have a wooden surface. Other surfaces require a different method of mounting. If you are mounting on a wallboard or a plastic surface then you will need to use drill to drill holes in the wall big enough for wall mounting hooks.

For metal surfaces you will need to use short metal screws; drill holes into the metal that are big enough the screws to fit inside of. Tougher surfaces like stone, concrete, and brick, require a carbide drill. Anchors, plugs and screws are used for the toughest surfaces.

If you haven’t yet purchased a DIY Roman blinds kit, you can check online at various different stores like to see what kits are available to choose from. Generally you can find several different kits available with the mounting supplies that you need to properly install the roman blinds to your walls.
