Footballer Spotting in the UK

Whether it’s Mario Balotelli setting off fireworks in his bathroom or ‘Golden Balls’’ golden throne in Beckingham Palace, the lavish homes of footballers and their antics when behind closed doors continue to interest us.

So much so that it can even have an impact on our search when buying a home. Rubbing shoulders with the Premier League’s stars can be a thrilling experience for many, just steer clear of Wayne Rooney after Manchester United lose or ‘Super Mario’ with his fireworks in hand.

Here we’ve given you an idea of a few locations where you might just spot yourself a footballing superstar.

Surrey

Surrey is a favourite amongst the millionaires who ply their trade on the Kings Road every Saturday. Following Roman Abramovich’s takeover of Chelsea in 2003, the Blues moved their training ground to the once University playing fields in Cobham.

Wanting to cut down their morning commute many of the team’s stars flocked to the leafy suburb of Oxshott. Current England Captain John Terry calls it home as does Ashley Cole – albeit without Cheryl these days. But it’s not just the footballers who rule the roost with tennis star Andy Murray and celebrity publicist Max Clifford also thought to live here.

Cheshire

Heading over to Cheshire villages like Alderley Edge and Prestbury you can’t move without bumping into an ace from either Manchester United or Manchester City, with Wayne Rooney, Michael Carrick and the infamous Balotelli all living close by.

But it’s not just the Manchester clubs with players from Stoke, Liverpool and Everton all basing themselves in the quiet suburbs of Hale and Bowdon. Gone is Carlos Tevez who famously criticised Manchester and its surrounding areas despite owning a large Cheshire mansion – but who said that footballers had taste anyway?

Hampstead

NW3 is a hotspot for North London’s top footballing talent with players from both Arsenal and Tottenham living in close proximity to one another. Once home to Gunners’ legends Cesc Fabregas and Thierry Henry (we can’t confirm if the loan signing is back in his old pad) walking down the nearby high street these days you may see Robin van Persie, William Gallas and Jermain Defoe – you’d think they’d get enough of each other at work.

So, whether you’re looking for a home in any of these areas or just nearby a Premier League footballer could be just around the corner. Is that a good thing? Well that’s for you to find out…
